PhillyNORML led the successful effort to decriminalize marijuana in Philadelphia. This significant policy shift allows for $25 civil citations for possession of up to 30 grams of marijuana in lieu of a criminal arrest. Nearly one year into the change and arrests are down 73 percent. This has stopped thousands of residents from ending up in jail and living with a permanent record. The new policy has also saved the city more than $2 million dollars.
Our Board members have also been instrumental in getting statewide legislation introduced in Harrisburg. This includes bills to legalize medical cannabis and fully regulate marijuana for adults.
PhillyNORML holds events throughout the year, participates in education forums and we are frequently quoted in the media.
