NORML PAC Endorses John Hanger for Pennsylvania Governor

HangerIndyPHILADELPHIA, PA — On a brisk but sunny morning in front of historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia candidate for Pennsylvania Governor John Hanger received the formal endorsement of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws Political Action Committee (NORML PAC).

“Stop the arrests and jailing!” Hanger said today, “Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians whose lives are harmed or threatened by these laws now have a way to end the unjust laws in just 6 months.”

Hanger is the former head of the PA Environmental Protection agency and has crafted a three-step plan to fully legalize marijuana in the Commonwealth within two years of winning the governorship in 2015.

NORML Communications Director Erik Altieri said, “Since the start of his campaign, John Hanger has been a passionate and outspoken advocate of ending Pennsylvania’s war on marijuana and moving the state towards a smarter approach.”

Hanger faces a field of Democratic challengers in the May 2014 primary but he sees the issue of cannabis reform as a positive boost that will put him ahead of the rest.

“We have over 20,000 marijuana possession arrests in Pennsylvania each year,” PhillyNORML Co-Chair Chris Goldstein pointed out. “John has a modern and progressive approach to comprehensive reform. His plan could really change things here.”

The NORML PAC contributes donations to candidates who take a proactive role in ending marijuana prohibition.
