Marijuana Legalization Legislation Introduced in Pennsylvania

State Senator Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery County) has introduced Senate Bill 528 to legalize and regulate the adult use of marijuana. SB 528 has been referred to the Senate Law and Justice Committee, but has yet to be scheduled for a hearing.

Approximately 25,000 citizens are arrested annually in Pennsylvania for marijuana-related offenses, at a cost of some $325 million dollars.

States bill sponsor Sen. Lynch: “Demographics and exposure will in time defeat irrational fears, old wives tales and bad science. This bill furthers the discussion, which hastens the day.”

Pennsylvania is one of a growing number of states where lawmakers are considering full cannabis legalization. NORML will continue to update you in the coming weeks as this proposal moves forward.
