News
2-15-2008: The American College of Physicians backs marijuana for medical uses. With over 120,000 members across the nation, they are the second largest physician's group in the US. The ACP released a 13 page position paper, making a broad case for medical marijuana.
10-10-2007: PA4MMJ gets some publicity in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Every guest caller in this program was pro-medical, and all of the guests on the show were pro-medical. There was no confusion, and the gentlemen I had the opportunity to converse with were both very well read on the subject. (Story here | See the Video)
9-17-2007: PA4MMJ is almost finished creating the Bill which we will attempt to introduce. We should expect to be done this stage within a few weeks to a month, and will then start meeting with our sponsor(s) to get it introduced and passed. Thank you for your continued support and patience!
7-11-2007: Barry Edward Busch, 58, passed away July 11, 2007 at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland, Pa. Born in Chester he was a long term resident of Brookhaven, Pa, and Upland, Pa. He was a graduate of Sun Valley High School in 1966, also a paralegal certification from Widner. He was a retired political activist, and a former employee of Pathmark, Aldan Rug Mill, and a magizine editor. A member of Keystone Alliance, Act-Up Foundation, and Aids Awareness Group. He was instrumental in drafting the countries first work place "Right to Know Law". Founder of American Spirit, and a pioneer in the social justice movement. A veteran of the Army Reserve. Barry was the campaign coordinator for PA4MMJ, and his presence will be sorely missed; however, our resolve has not weakened. We will continue to fight for legal access to medical marijuana in Pennsylvania.
About Us
So far, fourteen (14) states have passed varying degrees, from simple decriminalization to actual distribution with state oversight, of medical marijuana legislation. They are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington. It is time for Pennsylvania to join the fray. We are, quite literally, Pennsylvanians for Medical Marijuana.
Pennsylvania is the 'Birthmother' of freedom for this country. From within our borders over 200 years ago were created all the written words and documents from which this nation was created. More importantly, it was where the peoples rights were first assured. For us as a state to stand idly by and not add our voice to this debate would be a dereliction of our patriotic duty.
This debate is not only about the humanitarian altruistic rights of PA citizens - we the people - on a medicinal level, it is also about much more important concerns: the principles of separation of powers between the States and Federal government.
Pennsylvania's right to state sovereignty
The most recent Franklin and Marshall college poll (PDF) shows 76% of the people of Pennsylvania support medical marijuana. A recently taken American Spirit poll shows more legislative support exists than we have been lead to believe. Until we have proven to the legislators that the FDA is ignoring scientific research proving the medicinal benefits of marijuana, we will be about six (6) Senate votes and up to a dozen House votes short of passage of a properly worded medical marijuana bill.
We Need You - Where you come in
We, Pennsylvanians for Medical Marijuana, a group of people like yourself, have over the past year been setting up the groundwork to get legislation introduced in the Pennsylvania House and Senate around the holiday season, or soon thereafter. We need your help to get this legislation passed. We need you to call both of your Senate and House legislators, write them letters, write letters to the editor of your area newspapers, and call talk radio shows to educate the people as to the reasons Pennsylvania must pass medical marijuana legislation. We need you to tell your friends and get them involved. It's only by a concerted effort with your help that we can succeed.
We will give you all the support you need. The links to the left will supply you a wealth of information - both medical and legal. For best results we do need to be in touch with you on a personal level, so please fill out the volunteer signup form to the left, or call and write our campaign coordinator Derek Rosenzweig at 215-499-5354.
We are self funded and really could use donations and would appreciate whatever you can spare. Send checks or money orders to:
