Just out of curiosity's sake, I did a google of my web page, and was surprised when up popped all my post and access to my personal profile. Uh, I don't mind my words being seen, but I do mind access to my personal profile and the ability for anyone to modify it or attempt to tamper with it. And that is where the link from Google opened to. Time to try and lock it from search engines. Or I will have to shut that off and keep crawlers from finding it. Nonetheless, it lets outsiders in where they don't belong. And goes to show, what ever you may post on a forum could end up for anyone to see. That said, notority can work both ways!!!!! But please keep member's information private if at all possible. Ok, this is a mod of the post above. I have changed my robots.txt on my web site to shut out the forum. Maybe the admins should check this out and exclude this forum from search engine robots. Please note too that anyone who replied to a thread that I did has their posts there for all to see too. http://www.robotstxt.org/orig.html

Yea these forums are not private... I thought that was common knowledge.
There's one thing you should always keep in mind while using the internet: Anything you post online will probably leak out at some point.
I'll see what we can do about it though.

I thought you guys knew that these forums were open to anyone. If you would like them to be more private we can do that. No one can change your personal profile without your password, you have to log in to make any changes but it is there for anyone to see. We could change that but we leave it open ATM for transparency.

I don't mind outsiders seeing whats going on.. That's what this forum is about. (Educational) I was just concerned about anyone seeing my personal information? Which is not right anyhow. jackcat if you have a link of this site on your web page it will cross link. ?

After much discussion we have decided to lock the forums. It may help spur growth since anyone who wants to read them will have to register. We will try this out to see how it works and we are always open to suggestions, the most important thing is that the current members are happy with the change. With the new website we may decide to change it back since it will be more integrated with the site but we will figure that out when we get there. Cheers -dOc

That's a good idea. I was able to delete my PMs using this link from Google's search. And I just have a link for the home page of Phillynorml not the inner forum. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=redstonepipes.com

Jackcat the only reason you could even see your PM's is because you were automatically logged in. We have cookies that run on the forum for that. Log out and try it see what happens.

Doesn't matter now, I deleted them just in case. Ok, I'll try that log out and see what happens.

When the new website goes live, all the news articles will be pointing to a forum post for viewing/writing comments, and this will require the forums to be open for viewing to the public, so we will have to change it back. The site should be going live within a week or so depending on circumstances, and we'll let you know when that's going to happen.

I believe the forum should be public to everyone. Don't post any personal information and you'll be fine.

I'm weighing in and I think the forums should be open to the public. Requiring reg only means FBI\DEA needs to give a hotmail address and they can read everything anyway. Once FBI\DEA subpoenas phillynorml webserver logs we are all busted anyways since all of our IP's are logged each time we post. 1puff.
