Yesterday (12-21-09), I caught the tail end of Fresh Air (radio program on 90.9FM). They were discussing bills being passed around the house and the senate and the question of medical cannabis came up. Some interesting things were said by the guest. I missed his name but he seemed to be a political commentator. The first thing he said was that the last time he metioned the topic on the radio he got more responses than all his other topics combined. He also said that an the majority of democratic and republican citizens polled are in favor of medical cannabis. On the bad side, he felt it wouldn't pass for 2 reasons. One reason being that politicians tend to lag behind the social changes of the people by several years, or as it's known in the real world, not doing your job efficiently. The second reason he believes it won't pass is the number of larger and more dramatic bills that need to be dealt with. Medical cannabis is considered a "luxury" bill and is a back burner issue. Of course it isn't a luxury bill to those doubled over in pain or wasting away because they're to nauseous to hold down a meal. Then again politicians have excellent medical benefits and can get all the pills they need to make the world seem shiny and happy to the point where all the suffering in the world becomes barely audible background noise.
