New Quinnipiac Poll Shows Strong PA Support For Medical Marijuana
By Derek Rosenzweig

Consistent with previous polls, medical marijuana remains an idea that Pennsylvanians support. Today, Quinnipiac Univeristy Polling released the results of its latest poll of PA politics and issues. Directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., Quinnipiac conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio and the nation as a public service and for research.

Polling shows a total 59% in favor of medical marijuana, with Republicans in favor 49% to 47% against. Democrats are strongly in support with 67% and only 26% against. All regions of PA show above 50% support except Northwest PA, which shows 47% in support. Across all ages, incomes, and college education, medical marijuana remains a "good idea", with lowest polling at 56% for citizens over 55 years of age.

With a sponsor in the PA Senate building support among colleagues in preparation for the introduction of a bill identical to HB 1393, these polling numbers go to show that the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania don't want to see this issue languish - they want action, and our government is responding. They should be applauded for that. Anybody can come down with a condition that could be alleviated with medical marijuana, and simply having the option available is what people want. It also goes to show that people can look at states like California, which our opposition points to as the mecca of everything gone wrong with medical marijuana, and see how to avoid their mistakes while still allowing the benefits of a legal system.

Complete Question Stats:
Q: 31. There is a proposal in the state legislature that would allow adults to legally use marijuana for medical purposes if their doctor prescribes it. Do you think this is a good idea or a bad idea?

With numbers like this, the GOP controlled senate by not passing the bill, will only go to prove they don't care what the people want.  No Legislation without real representation, and just more GOP stonewalling and foot dragging.  joint peace

Well, our bill has yet to be introduced in the Senate, but it should be by the end of the month if everything goes right.

This is great news. With just a bit of effort we could really drive the argument home. With all that is going on in the world and nationally
we have a lot to "piggyback" off of:

The economy is in the toilet and freedom is dwindling. If the public knew just how much the US and individually they spent on the drug war, it might even
change the mind of the most stubborn conservative person.  Wall street keeps getting richer and our wages appear to stay the same. A little connect the dots and the public
will see who benefits from the current model and who bends over to grab their ankles while Uncle Sam and his friends take turns. Wall street got the money. Can we at least have a side of freedom?
The drug war has now outsourced to mexico and everyday we seem to hear of unfortunate news because america is not drug free despite what Sponsorship for a Drug Free America tells us (funded by pharmecutical companies and even alcohol and tobacco companies at one time). The DEA even admits that more drugs are coming in through the borders now than ever before.  Seems like everyday that I read of some violent rapist, murder or pedophile that was released from the overcrowded prisons.  Will sensibility shine through? Looks like more and more kids are smoking the MJ too. Will we realize that regulation is exactly what helps to keep it out of the kids hands? It only took us 30+ years to realize that Drugs are hear to stay.

Healthcare reform. It is out of control. We all agree, but what do we do? Why is the government pretending to be doctors when the real doctors aren't even allowed
to research marijuana? Seems like everyday I see an add for a new miracle drug that has a slew of side effects.  Can we at least choose whether we want some addictive painkillers or would like the softer, safer MJ. It is our body you know. You don't own that.

Global warming, Building Green and everything that is environmentally friendly.  Forests take hundreds of years to grow before they are cut down and turned into paper that is mailed out in some form of junk mail it seems. Will we ever embrace the far more renewable and durable hemp again? Peak oil is in the horizon and The "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" that is twice the size of Texas and floating somewhere a few hundred miles off the paradise named Hawaii. Yummy! pure natural plastic destroying the marine ecosystem. Is it time to produce biodegradable hemp plastic or are we going to keep using oil for that too?

The Olympics, 3 presidents and hypocrisy. Michael Phelps breaks the world record and wins 8 gold medals despite using a drug that turns its users into a-motivational brain dead fools. Or does it? Meanwhile Alcohol the most dangerous drug, sponsors the Olympics. The past three presidents have used it too and two even liked to go "skiing" once in a while.  maybe it doesn't turn you into an a-motivational brain dead idiot after all. Then we have Cindy Mccain. Anheuser-Busch heiress previously addicted to painkillers to the point that she stole out of a charity. But no Prescription drugs are safe and we even get the pleasure of watching commercials featuring the latest and greatest pill with death listed as a side effect. Political know nothings who collect from the Pharm. industry would rather we just shut up and take their medicine. So with all that in mind does the government really care about our safety? Or does the government still support tobacco the second most dangerous drug?
