About PhillyNORML
Are you upset about the government's drug war? Do you think that prohibition didn't work when it was focused on alcohol and you wonder if it's working now? Do you feel that government funds would be better spent on something other than jailing people for the victimless crime of smoking Marijuana? Do you think that people should be able to choose their own medicine rather than be told what is OK and what is too dangerous for them? Do you like to eat hemp foods and don't want them banned?
The US "war on drugs" has failed to make an ounce of difference in keeping drugs out of the community and out of society. If anything, it could be argued that drug prohibition has served to help black market organizations profit from the skyrocketing prices of illegal drugs. The war on drugs has been the chief reason for recent infringement on civil liberties including the first, fourth, fifth, and tenth amendment rights. Prohibition does not make the problem of substance abuse go away but in fact creates more problems when you consider the repercussions of the unregulated black market.
It is time to end this "drug war" and restore sanity to the American government. Organizations such as NORML have made great strides in the last decade and can continue to do so in the future.
